My Professional Debut

A second place finish and a 64 in my first tournament as a professional

This tournament could not have started any better for me! It had been over a month since I last played in a tournament in the first stage of the LPGA qualifying school, so it was time to see what all the practice had done for my game. I turned professional on September 1st and this would thus be my first tournament as a pro golfer! The tournament was one out of many on the mini-tour called The Cactus Tour. Not a lot of players compete in these events and I definitely did not play to make money, since the prizes are small, but it gives me tournaments to play in while preparing for the LPGA qualifier.

The temperature read over 110 degrees all three days of the tournament so it was definitely a hot experience. Nevertheless, I was excited to get out and play competitively again after over a month break. All the practice seemed to pay off. I birdied my first hole and from there everything just seemed to go my way :) I bogeyed the 6th hole but that was the only hiccup of the day. Three more birdies on my last three holes and I ended up shooting a round of 64, 8 under par!! It is my lowest round ever and it was so fun to experience that I am capable of taking my score that low. I made 9 birdies and know that I can do it again. I hit everything close and seemed to make all the putts. It was such a fun day, and then in the first round as a professional :)

But golf is a funny game and the day after I must have used up my good shots and putts. I hit it bad and didn’t make many putts so I carded a 74. I was still leading with 4 shots into the final round and was ready to shot low on the final day to get that win. I did play really well and gave myself plenty of opportunities but nothing would drop. I had 5 putts within 7 feet that didn’t go in, and when I finally had my last lip-out on the 18th hole I felt like I had tried hard but it just wasn’t my day. Despite this I shot a 1 under 71. The girl I played with on the other hand, played like I did on the first day and she made everything. I ended up in second place, just one back of number one. It was a little frustrating but at the same time I played well and game myself many good chances. It wasn’t the win I could have hoped for considering the first round, but still I am very happy with how my first professional tournament turned out.

With a top finish in the tournament also came my first ever pro check! It wasn’t much but it was so fun to receive it anyway :) Now I have a week and a half to prepare for the next tournament on the Cactus Tour. Before that my coach from Denmark Thomas Larsson is flying in for a couple of days for some intense practice. That should hopefully get me all prepared for September 27 – the day second stage of the LPGA qualifier begins.

Thanks to everyone for all the support, it means the world to me!

Take care,
