My Last Amateur Tournament

DILAC

This past week I finished 2nd in the Danish International Ladies Amateur Championship

After a fun weekend in Silkeborg, Denmark I hit the last shot in an amateur tournament on Sunday afternoon. I will remain an amateur just a couple more weeks; however the tournament in Silkeborg marked my last amateur tournament, as I now turn to a professional career.

The summer weather did not exactly treat us well in Silkeborg as the practice round and the final round on Sunday was spent mostly under the umbrella. Before the tournament I made some quite big adjustments to my swing in order for me to be ready for the Qualifying School next week. In the first round I struggled a little with this, plus I had a really hard time staying in the present. I have had a lot on my plate lately and was getting way ahead of myself mentally, focusing on things way out in the future instead of what I was doing at that moment. I got the wakeup call that evening after my first round in 79 (7 over par) on the tough course. The following day the goal for me was to stay in the present. I realized that if I didn’t, there was really no point in playing in this tournament at all. Apparently that mental adjustment paid off. After the 36 holes on Saturday I had posted two rounds in 1 under par, 71, and moved way up the leaderboard, just two strokes out of the lead. On the final day I had a bad start, and despite my game getting better as the round progressed I hardly had any chance at catching up to the leader.

I ended my last amateur event in 2nd place, and could only be pleased with the result considering the first round. I was staying with some close friends during the event and it was a lot of fun to see all the familiar faces from the many Danish amateur golf tournaments I have played in the past.

It has been an amazing time as an amateur, and no matter what happens in my future professional career, I will always be able to look back on the most amazing years being part of the Danish National Team and playing countless national and international tournaments. It will definitely be a change now with the professional career lurking around the corner, but I am very excited to open this new chapter! In a couple of days I will head to Florida and then the new life begins for real. It has been a slightly hectic summer at home and I am sad to have to leave my family until December. However, I am really excited to begin my life in the US, moving in with my boyfriend and starting my professional career.

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer!
