Back in Action

Four months of recovering from a back injury and I am finally back playing competitive golf again

This week it was time to see how the back would hold up in three consecutive rounds on the Cactus Tour (a mini tour in Arizona). I have been practicing for about a month now slowly progressing from the short game and finally making it to the driver, so it was time to take the practice to the test. My post injury debut didn’t start out quite according to plan, as my back on Sunday, the day before the tournament, decided I had practiced too much and kept me away from touching a club that day. The following day when the tournament started however, I felt good enough to play and was ready to enjoy myself and get back into the routine of things.

The tournament was played at Sun City Country Club here in Phoenix and I played some steady golf in the first round with two bogeys and three birdies for a round of 71. I was happy with a round below par and even found myself tied for the lead in the small field of 19 players. On the second day I had one of those days where everything was just easy. I hit most fairways, most greens and had a really hot putter. Especially on the front nine I was on a roll with four birdies and just 10 putts (own personal record)! From there the birdie hunt slowed down a bit, but nevertheless I carded a round of 67, which I was extremely happy with.

On the final day the lack of experience these past several months caught a little up with me and my game was very up and down. Luckily my putter helped me out and with 7 birdies but unfortunately too many squares on the scorecard I shot a 70 on the final day.

Despite the rocky final round I was very happy with the end score of -8 for the tournament but a playoff with Margarita Ramos was needed to decide the winner. 3 holes later I unfortunately had to see myself beat in the playoff which was a tough one to swallow, especially since I had a great opportunity to win the match on the very first playoff hole but missed it.

It was a letdown to lose in the playoff, but in a greater perspective I am very happy that I played so well in the first tournament since my back injury. Before the tournament started I would have thought a final score of -8 would have been slightly unrealistic, but I am fortunate enough to have great people around me who help me get better in every possible way, and made it all possible. It was so much fun playing competitively again, and it truly reminded me why I love golf. This game can be extremely punishing sometimes, like it was in the playoff I lost, but for every tournament I play I get more experience and that is sure to help me in the long run.

Now I am excited to get 100% back to normal with the help of a new chiropractor here in Arizona, and keep on practicing and playing. Unfortunately, there are no more tournaments coming up in the near future, so my next tournament will be the Arizona Women’s Open which is played in the beginning of November. In the meantime I can look forward to two weeks of vacation in Thailand with my mom and brother. One week in Bangkok and Hua Hin with my mom’s work, and then on to a week by the beach in Krabi just the tree of us. It has been a long and hard summer so I can’t wait for some family time :)

Thank you all so much for the amazing support, it is truly appreciated.

Kind regards,
