Arizona State Open

Arizona State Open

This week I competed in my biggest tournament as a professional so far…

…And it turned out alright :) Since the disappointment at second stage I have started working with Vic Wilk who teaches out of the Butch Harmon School of Golf. I only got one lesson long before I left for Arizona but I got a lot out of it. So the Arizona State Open at the Wigwam Resort would be a good chance for me to test the swing changes and hopefully influence my game in a good way.

I started out just fine with a round of 71, 1 under par, which I was content with considering the things I was working on with my swing. In the second round however, I ran into some challenges with the long game and did not hit a lot of fairways and greens. Luckily my short game was really good so I sort of saved the round in 73, which I guess is a decent number for being a bad round. Still it was not what I set out for, so I was a little disappointed but ready to change it around for the third and final round.

It seemed I had most of my game fixed for the next day but unfortunately I did not take advantage of all the chances I gave myself out there. With a few too many missed putts I was still doing alright with 2 under coming in to the last hole which resulted in a silly bogey. That meant I finished the round at 71 and thus ended the tournament in a total score of 1 under par.

Being the biggest tournament on the Cactus Tour this was a good chance to play good in a strong field, so I wasn’t completely content with my overall performance at the tournament. However, I did end the tournament under par and I played more consistently over the three rounds than I have done in a while so there are definitely good things to take away. I ended up tied for 8th overall out of a field of 75 players which isn’t completely bad either. Plus I made a little bit of money which is always fun, and still a slightly new experience for me, having turned pro so recently :)

I am staying in Arizona until the middle of next week to play in another tournament on the Cactus Tour at Palm Valley Golf Club. Unfortunately, it will not be as big as the Arizona Women’s Open but it will be another good event for me to keep working on my game and get more experience. I will write again next week after a hopefully well played tournament at Palm Valley.
