Another Top 5 on the Cactus Tour

Another top-5 on the Cactus Tour

Finished the season with a 4th place finish at Ocotillo Golf Club

This tournament on the Cactus Tour was the last one of the season for me, and I must admit I was looking forward to being done for the year. I made the drive down to Arizona Sunday to play the practice round the same day (a drive I have become very familiar with this fall). The tournament was to be played at Ocotillo Golf Club, a great course in southern Phoenix. Despite being in the desert there is water on almost every single hole which makes the course look extremely beautiful. A place I definitely can recommend.

The practice round went well, but even though I hit it fairly close the swing didn’t feel great and my putter was not really on line. I practiced after the round and felt fine before Monday’s first round; however, my putter was not very good to me when Monday came around. I stayed even par until the last couple of holes where I made two bogeys on my last three holes for a round in 74 (+2) and in 7th place.

Redemption day was on Tuesday! And it seemed I got out of the right side of the bed because on the back nine I had four birdies to put me in three under par. And then came the 17th hole… A visit in one of the many lakes cost me a double bogey and with that bad finish the round for me turned a good day’s work into a more mediocre one. With my 71 however, I moved up to tied for 3rd place. I got to play with two girls who both played the year on the LPGA Tour so it was great to get to talk with them and learn a little bit from their experiences. One of them played amazingly and shot a 65 so she put herself five shots in the lead and was going to be hard to catch. However, I only had one shot up to second place.

On the third day I felt good and was ready to go out and post a good score, but having just gotten into the swing of things, along came the 4th hole where I once again had to write down a double bogey on the scorecard. I don’t think I have made any double bogeys this entire fall, so I was not very happy with two in the same tournament. From there on I struggled a bit with my game and didn’t make any birdie putts. Finally a good putt went in on the last hole and a round in 73.

A total of 3 over par put me in 4th place for the tournament. Being that I did not feel great about my scores the result was fine. Coming from a win in my last tournament where I was 11 under par total, I just had higher expectations for myself. I could tell though, that I was ready to be done with the season and excited get to take some time off. This fall has been full of new experiences being my first fall as a professional golfer. I have really enjoyed myself so far, and after a couple of weeks with a little less practice I am excited to start preparing for the LPGA Futures Tour in 2012.
