And the Travel Begins

And the Travel Begins

Texas, Virginia, and Las Vegas have been the latest stops, and this week I am taking on New Jersey as the first of three tournaments in a row.

More than three weeks ago, I went to Texas for my 6th tournament on the LPGA. I had just missed the cut by one shot in Hawaii, and as third alternate in San Francisco I did not get into the field. Very quickly it got to be two annoying weeks where the game wasn’t bad but I hadn’t been able to make a move. Therefore, I wanted redemption in Texas.

That redemption however, became an increasingly hard task shooting +4 in the first round. Good thing that I had a second round to redeem myself and with a -4 in the second round which included a hole-out for eagle with a 9 iron, it was on to the weekend. The tournament was a shootout format with a second cut after Saturday, and with a troubling driver, I didn’t manage a spot in the final field on Sunday. Still it was a positive week where I was very happy with the comeback when it was needed and another made cut.

In Virginia two week ago I had a more forgettable week as the game simply wasn’t there. The swing was off, I never got a feel for the greens, and that is just golf sometimes. Old habits die hard and the swing had just slowly creeped back to some old mistakes that needed a little work. I flew straight from Virginia to Las Vegas to attend my sponsor Lon Kruger’s pro-am called Coaches vs. Cancer. It was two fun days playing Southern Highlands and Shadow Creek, meeting a lot of great people and supporting an amazing cause. This year almost $500K was raised to fight cancer during those two days!

After spending a few days in my old college town I got back home to Arizona to work hard on the swing. It doesn’t necessarily feel completely comfortable yet, but I am hitting it solid and I know that this will only strengthen my ball striking in the long run. I have had four great days of preparation here in New Jersey and am excited to get going tomorrow! So far, it has been six weeks of one week on, one week off, and I am happy to get a stretch of three tournaments in a row, first New Jersey, then Ontario Canada, and finally New York for my first major! I also get a chance to qualify for the US Open with my qualifier in between.

Here’s to hopefully three amazing weeks :)
