A Win in my First Tournament of the Year!!!

A win in my First Tournament of the Year!!!

Despite feeling a little rusty playing my first tournament of the year, I was able to win the tournament on the Cactus Tour after shooting 69-72-69 for a total of -6.

Going into this tournament, I was so excited to play competitively again after the winter break. I really just wanted to go out there and enjoy myself as well as keep on working on my swing. In Florida two weeks ago, I was able to go into depth with the technical aspect of my game with the Danish national coaches, and I knew I had a long way to go with my swing. The result was that I the first couple of days did not hit the ball well. However, all my misses ended up with really good results, and I guess what they say is true, ‘you are only as good as your misses’ :) A warm putter let to a round in 69 on the first day with 6 birdies.

On the second day, my misses weren’t quite as good and with no putts dropping I didn’t make any birdies. On the other side, I didn’t make any bogeys either. It ended with a slightly frustrating round of 72 with 18 pars! Only once before have I managed to do that, but it sure does not happen often.

Going into day three, I was two shots behind the leader Jasi Acharya. That quickly grew to three after I made a bogey on the very first hole. Luckily, I made up for it with birdies on hole 3, 4, and 5. Being tied for the lead after 5 holes, the battle went back and forth till the 16th hole where Jasi made a bogey. It came down to the 18th hole, where I after Jasi’s missed birdie attempt, holed my putt for birdie and the victory :)

The round ended in 69 after having hit the ball much better than the previous two days. I really enjoyed being out on the field again and that I ended up winning by far exceeded my expectations. I still have a lot of work to do with my swing, and it is just a huge bonus that I am able to keep my score low despite working hard on something technical. I am really happy about the result, and I ended up getting my biggest check so far, even though it isn’t much :) It is great to get going with tournaments again, and it is definitely a good warm up for this season on the Symetra Tour.

Next week I will be playing on the brand new mini tour The Grasshopper Tour. It will be the exact same format as the Cactus Tour, just with cheaper entry fees and supposedly higher prizes. So I want to give it a try. Thanks to everyone who has shown so much support on both Facebook and Twitter. It is really appreciated and warms my heart.

Wishing everyone a great season!
